Capital Regional Cancer Center is the first facility in Tallahassee to offer a new injectable radioactive medication to treat prostate cancer that has spread to bone and is resistant to other treatments.  This is an alpha particle emitting therapy (Radium 223) that travels directly to the site of bone metastases, exerting an anti-tumor effect without the side effects associated with other types of radiation treatment.  This treatment not only improves cancer-related symptoms, but is also the first radioactive material shown to improve survival duration.
